What is best practice?
You have two tests that are very similar. They fail for the same reason for the same tester.
1. Does the tester create a defect for each and you the test lead link the two together?
2. You link the two together and close one because of duplication?
3. You ask the tester when creating their second defect to link the failed test to the first defect? (Also, it seems odd that when running a test you only have the option to create a new defect or go to linked defects and then from there link to an existing defect. Seems like there would be an option to create a new defect or link to an existing one during the test run. Am I missing something?)
Thanks for your help.
