Hidden defect values cannot be filtered?

Hello,

We have hidden values within the defect status field, depending on the user role, but the hidden values do not display within the filter. Is there any way to display the hidden values within the filter? We are currently hiding these values using lists. Would we have to put some code around the filter button to use the defect list with all values?
